Fear of driving phobia

Many people can have a fear or driving but that doesn’t automatically mean that they have a phobia. If you have a phobia of driving then the mere thought of getting behind a steering wheel will create a dry mouth, sweaty palms, breathlessness and panic. This is because a phobia literally means “I will die”, your subconscious system will go to great lengths to prevent this from happening.

Fear of driving on highways

Fear of driving on highways and/or motorways is the most common presenting issue of a driving phobia. The situation entails speeds in excess of 30mph, faster moving traffic and much larger vehicles. All of this adds up to a visual display that can unleash trauma to the mind. Of the many clients I have worked with over the years, I’ve often found that accepting a change in their identity can be advantageous to their success. To explain this further, I’d have you consider that your driving test takes you from being a pedestrian to a driver. When you hear the words, “congratulations you have passed your test”, it’s very similar to a rite of passage. This shift from child to adult is absolutely liberating. I hear you now, as you say, “I’m 40, I’m not a child”. This is where I beg to differ, if you have a phobia around driving then your childhood brain is running the show.

Hypnosis for fear of driving

If you have vehophobia, you do not need hypnosis to overcome this fear. You actually need to be de-hypnotised, so that you can access the freedom, the liberation and the power that accompanies your driving license. One particular journalist who worked for the Evening Chronicle, a north-east based newspaper, had to get a taxi to the scene of wherever she was reporting. I’m sure you can see the irony for this roaming reporter. Fortunately for her I was on hand to help, after she successfully passed her driving test, she then went on to pursue her career in London. Quite often you find when you overcome one huge fear of phobia, you are released to explore your world more freely.

How to get over the fear of driving

As I’ve said above, if this is just a simple fear of driving then all you need do is get plenty of lessons and lots of practice. The more comfortable you are behind the steering wheel, the more at ease your mind will become towards driving. However, if you have a phobia of driving (vehophobia) which is far more intense than any fear, stop taking lessons! You won’t be learning anything except more fear. When we’re in panic mode the smart brain closes down so avoiding driving is actually a wise decision on your part. Once you have had the phobia removed then it’s a case of taking lots of lessons and more practice as I have detailed above. My audio download can help you achieve this, so what are you waiting for!

My Audio Download

Vehophobia is actually a very common issue. Often associated with agoraphobia (fear of open spaces), your mind causes you to shrink and feel small. Just the thought of sitting in the driving seat can ignite your amygdala, causing an instant negative emotion which triggers your fear to begin.

Although it’s not always viewed as a serious problem, having a fear of a driving (vehophobia) can massively impact on your self-esteem and self-confidence, as well as your chances of employment.

Many people see becoming a driver as an identity shift, a passport to freedom and right of passage to adulthood, so it isn’t surprising that not being able to do this can have such a devastating effect on you.

This audio production is designed to help you, the listener with being calm and at ease when you want it.
