what is anaphylaxis/anaphylaxis definition

Anaphylaxis is defined as an allergic reaction from exposure to an allergen such as bee stings or nuts. It can, in some instances, be life threatening depending on your body’s response.

What is an anaphylactic reaction/anaphylactic definition

The definition of an anaphylactic reaction or shock is the immune system releasing chemicals into the blood stream. This sudden flood can create anaphylactic shock.

how to tell if your having a allergic reaction – allergic reactions symptoms

Oxford languages defines Anaphylaxis as an acute allergic reaction to an antigen, to which the body has become hypersensitive. The basic signs of anaphylaxis can be

  • skin reactions
  • itching
  • hives
  • flushed or pale skin
  • swelling of tongue or throat which can constrict your airways creating difficulty breathing
  • A weak and rapid pulse with low blood pressure
  • Dizziness
  • Nausea
  • Fainting
  • Vomiting
  • Diarrhoea

If you consider anaphylaxis as an immune response to threat, then perhaps relaxing your mind to clear the threat will allow you to overcome the response. Hypnosis has been shown to help with these types of problems.

anaphylactic shock symptoms/severe allergic reactions

Prior to the anaphylactic shock you will have symptoms of the allergic response, which include:

  • A feeling of heat around your face (and maybe your body)
  • Dry mouth, difficulty swallowing, itchy throat
  • Swollen lips, tongue, swelling around the face and ears
  • Nausea, vomiting
  • Diarrhoea
  • Runny nose, sneezing, itchy eyes
  • Difficulty breathing

How fast does Anaphylaxis happen?

When the body’s alarm system has been triggered by the antigen e.g., a bee sting, to which it is hypersensitive, Anaphylaxis happens almost instantaneously. Your body sees the incoming antigen as a predator, so you are quite literally under attack. Hypnosis has been used for centuries to relax the mind and allow new learning to take place. Imagine if your mind was to learn how to let go of the allergic response so that you were able to be free.

Treatment for anaphylaxis

If you’re experience severe anaphylaxis, please seek immediate medical attention. Some people carry an epinephrine auto injector (EpiPen) for use when they first notice the symptoms.

Hypnotherapy for anaphylaxis

Hypnotherapy has been used successfully for centuries, to help people overcome anaphylaxis/allergic responses. Allergies and phobias can both seen as triggering the same auto-immune system responses. Switching off the threat response to a mushroom for example, can be done linguistically, without the need for a traditional trance induction. If a person has an allergic response to the mushrooms, then they have a negative emotional memory image (EMI) associated. The challenge to the therapist is to switch the negative EMI to a positive. In this current example it’s a case of explaining to the client that when they’re in an elevator with 10 other people, they don’t have ‘muchroom’. The linguistic pun creates the shift.
